An unusual visitor.

Opened the door to go shopping yesterday and someone was waiting for me.

I quietly went back inside and found some meat, as magpies are meat eaters by preference, and he was still waiting for me.
It is a bit hard to tell but he was almost inside the house when he took the piece of meat.  Unfortunately you cant see the meat in the last picture, but he just hopped down the stairs and "killed" the meat.  They always hit the meat on the ground as if it was alive.  Thought it was rather cute.  Do you have magpies over there.  Not sure if they are indigenous to Australia or not.  This is a male, because the females are black and gray rather than the vivid white of this one.

Interresting! You really got me learning a new thing, again! I knew the bird magpie, and we have our own couple in our yard, too. But the looks of them are not the same as in your photos.

Had to visit the Wikipedia. =oD
Here's the magpie I'm used to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magpie. Very commen here in Finland. Beautiful looking and bold. I like them to keep the noisy fieldfares away from our land. But then I noticed there really are a different looking magpies in Australia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Magpie, too. Funny thing. Nature is so versatile.

Oh, how I like to read everything you write and see the photos. I'm really glad that you are there for me! Thank you, my friend!

Thanks, they are different aren't they. The Europen Magpie (we call them Maggies) seem from the picture to be smaller in the body.

The characteristics are very similiar.

I feel the same about your blog, it is almost (but not quite) like being there. So I thank you too.

I feel I am learning a lot about your country too.

I have a friend here who cannot understand how you can "meet" someone over the internet, (she doesn't use a computer) and make friends. She doesn't know what she is missing.

I don't think she ever had a penpal. Did you have one? Just after the war, apparently it was a bit thing in schools here to organize penpals all over the world. It wasn't as popular when I got to high school.

Internet can be a real sourse of finding friends. I've met a lot of people that I've met through net and never have I been dissapointed.

And yes, I've had many penpals all over the world from my teen year until the kids. Then the time got too hectic and little by little penpals dropped off. With some of them we still change e-mails and send postcards to at times. Some penpals just came too important to loose. =o)

I agree, but my friend has a very closed mind. I think technology frightens her. But her loss. I am glad I have met you and appreciate all you are teaching me about your country, and feel like I am part of your extended family with what you share with me. Keep well and safe hugs and kisses, (to the animals too)
